The Germinator is a new and exciting startup competition that combines the best of traditional incubation programs with the intensity of an accelerator experience. The two-year program offers world-class mentorship, an in-depth educational experience, and competitive investments based on performance and milestones.

Syracuse Tech Meetup

Syracuse Tech Meetup is the go-to resource in Central New York for connecting with other regional professionals for illumination, networking and socializing. Each month, the 1,000+ registrants of the Meetup participate in a wide variety of technology, business and marketing programs that broaden horizons and strengthen connections across the region.

Startup Labs

Startup Labs is a global seed stage investment fund aiming to disrupt the startup scene by reinventing the traditional investment process. This three-week program provides seed capital, mentorship and technical support in an effort to help validate program teams and business models for later stage investors. Finalists compete for a $150,000 convertible debt note and a suite of marketing and branding services valued at $50,000 from sponsor Eric Mower + Associates.

Grants for Growth

Our Grants for Growth program accelerates startup tech transfer and commercialization by providing seed capital that connects researchers and entrepreneurs. The program provides initial Proof of Concept Grants (up to $25,000) and Accelerator Notes (up to $150,000). Since the program’s launch in 2006, dozens of projects have been funded, resulting in over 100 patents and more than $2.2M in seed funding for advancing technologies and business models.

Winners of Grants for Growth Round 12 will be announced in early 2015. Stay tuned for the next round announcement in 2015.

Pre-Seed Workshop

Our Pre-Seed Workshops help potential entrepreneurs determine the commercial merit of their ideas, assess their team’s start-up fortitude and, for those ideas that do have commercial merit, organize the idea to move forward. This two-day workshop takes six to eight high-tech ideas from universities/research centers and complements the “idea champion” with a multi-functional team to simulate a start-up team with expertise in technology, business, finance, law, etc.

Clean Tech Center

The Clean Tech Center, in the heart of one of the world’s top ten clean tech clusters, is a NYSERDA-funded clean energy program that incubates and accelerates companies focused on clean and renewable energy technologies. Early stage companies receive intensive mentoring to help develop and launch next generation technologies such as solar, wind, biofuels, energy harvesting, transmission and storage, smart buildings and the smart grid.

Syracuse Student Sandbox

A unique business incubator for aspiring student entrepreneurs, the Syracuse Student Sandbox accelerates ideation, development and deployment through mentoring and coaching. This twelve-week experiential program is intended to produce revenue generating entities or investment ready firms.

Startup Weekends

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. Anyone is welcome to pitch a startup idea and receive peer feedback. Teams organically form around the top ideas (determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. Weekends culminate in presentations for local entrepreneurial leaders with cool prizes at stake.

Hack Upstate

Hack Upstate is a weekend hackathon where developers, innovators and designers from Upstate New York come to Syracuse, NY, to share ideas, form teams and build incredible products. Held twice a year, Hack Upstate intends to unite and facilitate collaboration among hacker communities, contributing to the growth of Upstate New York’s technology sector, and creating a robust network of technologists and regional technology companies.
